THE BLACKACRE FOUNDATIONJudge Macauley Smith and Emilie Strong Smith established the Blackacre Foundation in 1983 to manage and maintain the grounds and structures of Blackacre State Nature Preserve. In 1996 and 1997 the Smith family contributed funds to allow the Foundation to purchase 101 protective acres adjacent to the preserve. It is the mission of the Blackacre Foundation to protect and preserve the natural, historic, and aesthetic character of the land and buildings it manages; to promote local history and environmental education; and to ensure responsible use and enjoyment of this land by the public.
